How Can I Improve My Kidney Function?

Kidneys are been shaped organs placed in your either side of the spine below ribs. The main function of the kidney is to filter blood.
This is the most important and foremost question that whether you can improve your GFR or kidney function or not. These are few tips which can help you to keep your kidney functioning healthy.
  1. Control Your Blood Sugar
Normal levels of blood sugar are equivalent to healthy kidneys. High blood sugar can damage your kidneys as body has a self defense mechanism, whenever blood sugar levels rise then body eliminates the same through Urine, which ultimately damages kidneys.
  1. Take Ample Amounts of Fluids
Drinking ample amount of liquids can help you to keep kidneys healthy. Around 2-3 liters of water should be taken daily. Take natural fruit juices like coconut water/lemonades instead of aerated beverages which contains a lot of sugar.
  1. Monitor Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is 2nd most reason for kidney failure. Normal Blood pressure is 120/80 mm of Hg but it fluctuates with many factors like age. The maximum blood pressure which a person can afford is 150/90 mm of Hg. We at Dr. Aggarwal’s Ayurvedic Panchakarma & Research Centre tell all our hypertension patients to keep their blood pressure below this limit so that one should not go into kidney failure.
  1. Monitor Weight and Eat A Balanced Diet
A balanced diet is all you need to keep you healthy. Keep a random check on your weight as well.
  1. Don’t Smoke & Avoid Alcohol
Smoking and excessive alcohol can lead to Kidney problems.
  1. Don’t Control Your Natural Urges
This is the most important of all. There are 13 natural urges mentioned in ayurvedic text books which one should not control. These are
  1. Flatus (vata vega)
  2. Feces (pureesh vega)
  3. Semen(shukra vega)
  4. Urine (mutra vega)
  5. Vomiting (chardi vega)
  6. Sneezing (ksavathu vega)
  7. Hunger (kshuda vega)
  8. Yawning (Jrumbha vega)
  9. Eructation (belching) (uadgar vega)
  10. Thirst ( trishna vega)
  11. Tears (CRY- bhaspa vega)
  12. Sleep (nidra vega)
  13. Rapid breathing from exertion (shramshvas vega)
Suppression of these urges create improper signaling in the autonomic nervous system and hence, diseases.
  1. Value Herbal Supplements/Medicine than Chemicals
Intake of Allopathic medicine in daily life can also cause side effects e.g. if Pain killers taken regularly, can cause kidney failure. Many people in poor & developing countries like India are taking medication unaware of the side effects. Please don’t overdue the medicine prescribed to you by your doctor & try to avoid over the counter chemicals. This will help you save your kidneys.
There are a lot of salts overuse of which can cause kidney failure. We will describe those
